Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Cal AI (“we”, “us”, and “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the Cal AI mobile application, this website, related API services, and support channels that reference this policy. It is intended to describe our actual product behaviour in clear terms, including how food photos, optional account information, and app settings are handled.
By using Cal AI, you acknowledge that your information will be handled as described here. If you do not agree with this policy, do not use the app or related services.
Information we collect
- Food photos you choose to scan. When you take or upload a food image for analysis, the image is sent to our API and/or service providers we use to identify visible foods and estimate nutrition information.
- Scan results and history. We may store generated food names, calorie estimates, macro estimates, timestamps, and related metadata so the app can show your recent scans, diary, and history when server sync is enabled.
- Device and session identifiers. The app may create a random installation or device identifier, access tokens, and session records so it can communicate with our API without requiring mandatory registration.
- Optional Google account information. If you choose Google Sign-In, we receive information from Google such as your Google subject identifier and email address so we can associate your app data with that account.
- Profile and preferences. You may provide or configure language, theme, calorie goals, reminder preferences, and optional body metrics used for calorie target calculations.
- Diagnostics and usage metadata. Our servers may record timestamps, request paths, status codes, coarse device or app metadata, quota usage, and error details needed to operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.
- Support information. If you contact us, we may process the information you include in your message, such as your email address, issue description, order details, screenshots, or account identifiers needed to investigate the request.
Permissions and device access
- Camera is used only when you choose to capture a meal photo for analysis.
- Photos or media access is used only when you choose an existing food image from your library.
- Notifications are used for optional meal logging reminders that you configure or allow. You can disable notifications in the app or in your device settings.
You can deny or revoke these permissions through your operating system settings. Some features may not work if a permission needed for that feature is disabled.
How photo and AI processing works
Cal AI uses computer vision and artificial intelligence to estimate visible foods, portions, calories, and related nutrition information. The app cannot analyze a photo unless you choose to take or upload it. AI output can be incomplete or inaccurate, especially when a photo is blurry, items are hidden, portions are unclear, or recipes are mixed together.
Food recognition results are provided for informational tracking only. They are not medical advice, diagnosis, or a substitute for professional nutrition guidance. You should verify important nutrition values using packaging, recipes, labels, or a qualified professional.
How we use information
- Provide core app functionality, including food recognition, calorie estimates, scan history, and diary entries.
- Authenticate device sessions and optional Google accounts.
- Sync your settings, profile, and history when cloud features are used.
- Apply fair usage limits, quota controls, fraud prevention, and security protections.
- Debug errors, maintain reliability, and understand whether the service is functioning correctly.
- Respond to support requests and comply with legal, platform, or policy requirements.
We do not sell your personal information.
Service providers and third parties
We may use service providers to host our API, store data, process food images, deliver app functionality, provide sign-in, process purchases through app stores, or help operate the website. These providers process information on our behalf or under their own terms, depending on the service. Examples include cloud infrastructure, AI processing providers, Google Sign-In, Google Play, Apple App Store, and other technical vendors used to run Cal AI.
We may also disclose information if required to comply with law, enforce our terms, protect users or the service, or respond to valid requests from public authorities.
Retention
We keep information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, such as providing app functionality, maintaining scan history, enforcing quotas, securing the service, resolving disputes, and meeting legal or platform requirements. Server-side account data, scans, profiles, device records, and related quota records are removed when account deletion is completed, subject to short backup cycles and limited records we may need to keep for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or accounting.
Data stored only on your device may remain there until you delete it, uninstall the app, clear app storage, or use in-app deletion features where available.
Your choices and controls
- You can use some app features without Google Sign-In, though cloud sync and account recovery may be limited.
- You can control camera, photos, and notification permissions in your device settings.
- You can edit app preferences such as reminders, theme, language, and calorie goals in the app where available.
- You can delete your account and associated server data from the mobile app when signed in with Google, or follow our account deletion instructions.
- You can contact us through the support channel or email listed in the app store listing or site footer.
Security
We use HTTPS for production app traffic and apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. No online service is perfectly secure, so you should protect your device, keep your operating system updated, and avoid sharing account or session access.
International processing
Cal AI and the service providers we use may process information in countries other than where you live. Data protection laws may differ by location, but we handle information according to this policy and applicable legal requirements.
Children
Cal AI is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our product, providers, legal obligations, or data practices change. The “Last updated” date will reflect the latest revision. Material changes will be reflected in the app, website, or store listing where required.

Questions about this policy can be sent through the support channel or email published in the app store listing or the site footer when configured. Please include enough context for us to identify your request, such as the platform you use and the account email if you signed in with Google.
